...unless someone figures a way to put forums on a phone. Like a mobile version of phpbb or vBulletin or something.

I'd like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

I could do that easy. I've developed for Android before, I just do not think people would be posting here. People come for the manga.

I think it depends, if you could subscribe to threads, get notifications on new posts on your phone and reply inline almost like a messager service, maybe. But thats a stretch because I know you're right, forums are too inactive to justify mobile access.

This is really the factor that came into play with my site index page change. Once Naruto dies out, NF forums will go with it.
Then it will be time for One Piece to rise to the top in the western world
Iīm actually pretty active on NF (not clicking any ads though, so he ainīt getting any money from me :P) and there are still lots of people on there. Donīt think those forums will die out that soon. Theyīll still be going for some years to come (around 1900 users on atm...around 360 logged in members...). But as I said, in some years they will be the One Piece Forum :P

Well I hope you are happy from popping my bubble in regards to NF and part of Tazmo crashing and burning. His forum will die eventually, what goes up must come down, it is only a matter of time.

I've looked at his forums and do not see why it's so large. If I were to create NF2 or something else, with the same forum categories, think I would grow as big as him if I were to mass email our members?

Well, sorry for being a realist :P
Whatever that guy did, his forum did attract lots of people and continues to do so (they have their fair share of newbies...). As you have seen, there are other categories apart from manga/anime, like you what you did here as well, but on a bigger scale.

And the success isnīt (I think) because what they have, but how they developed. Itīs kind of like a "culture", dunno how to explain this. People just flock to NF xD So I donīt think the same project would have the same success. It would be interesting though to ask people why theyīre staying at NF and what makes is it "such a cool place" or something (well, the old folks would be the exceptions, they have their friends there etc.).

I donīt even know if most of them leech from Tazmoīs site anyway and I donīt even know if he still has his paid subscriptions anymore (I havenīt visited a download site - ST not counted - in years now).
Another interesting thing is, thereīs a veteran there who started (or at least advertises) a new forum for one piece and toriko mostly, and there are some who went over there as well. That shows at least that itīs good to have some old friends with the same interests when you start some new forums.

Donīt know if my interpretation of this whole thing holds ground, but that my opinion (on the quick) anyway.

You might be right about all of that, I guess it is the whole community being active that makes it so popular. I was thinking about copying all their forums/subforums here to ST, but I am thinking that still might not work out, though it might be something for me to try. I'd like to do something to get our forum more active, but we just seem to attract the downloader's.

Maybe another good idea would be a more....personalized/original download site - thatīs something even he has (I think?) and people are drawn to it and the forums probably.

What do you mean a more personalized/original download site, could you clarify? It sounds interesting but I thought our site was fine for what people were looking for, downloads. Do you mean allow people to mark chapters/bookmark them and leave reviews with comments for each one? Being able to review an entire series and give it a review, etc? I am not sure I am on the right track but if that is what you are suggesting I will get working on that since that sounds like a good idea to me.

I guess he's talking about the graphic theme mainly. As far as I'm concerned I like websites that emphasize on functionality rather than looks, but most of the major manga websites that I browse have some kind of eye-candy.

Imho what makes the success of a manga website is a good trade-off between ease of use, exhaustiveness and reliability. And of course, the frequency of updates. For example, I think anidb corners it all pretty well, maybe with the exception being ease of use (and not being a manga website but rather a db for animes).
Currently, when I want my weekly dose of manga, I mainly go to mangareader. I used to be a huge fan of mangahelpers, but I guess there's no much point to it now, as far I'm concerned anyway...
