Everyone knows that
torrents and file downloads are only legal if you have the actual movie/file whatever.
What azmo is doing is illegal to a worse extent that hes getting paid for it, but still we shouldnt be hypocrites - ripping manga and anime artists off their royalties.
So both free and paid downloads of anime and manga - UNLESS the payment goes to the creators (and you are sure of it) IS illegal - no matter what country you are in.
You wouldnt steal a book out of a libary, yet your ok with reading manga online - and you think its legal? Its the same thing - theft is theft.
Now im sure all of you know all torrents are illegal and are aware of the risks, but to those who think it isnt illegal because everyone else is doing it, think again.
What azmo is doing is illegal, making money from other peoples work (similar to ebaum on ebaumsworld- thats even worse - for a reference go to ebaumsworldsucks and get the info on that) but we shouldnt critize him if we are downloading illegal files too.
Both DB and I think narutofan.com acknoledge the fact that you must own the actual anime or manga before you can legally download the file, so download at your own risk.
Note I used to download a lot of movies and manga and stuff from the interent, but I quit doing that because a) it was illegal (even if it still is on places such as youtube and google video - it is masked as being legal) but I deleted all that and dont do it anymore. b) it takes up too much bandwidth
I know this will hardly stop any of you from doing this, but I am just reassuring that any form of downloading works that do not support the original author, from any source is illegal, and you know it is.
Burnination has occured, my fragile worldview cannot take the facts and logic you have supplied to it timmah I can feel it all cracking up. No whoops that's just a headache. I don't really feel the need to justify my actions to anyone, I am aware of possible consequences I nearly always consider them before I do anything, but the self righteous really get on my nerves, so I decided to suplly an alternate viewpoint.
First things first, I do buy manga, anime, music, comics, cds etc and go to cinemas, if I could afford it I'd go to concerts too. I also download for reasons branching from the main one. I don't have limitless money, I save to buy my own copies and so I don't want to waste my cash on crap thus a quick download can work as a preview if i enjoy it enough I'll go buy it. It also allows me to enjoy a far greater range than I would be able to afford. I also don't see the industries limping along. The studios can still afford to pay individual actors and actresses millions for less than a years work for example, scanlations can also I believe help companies get free market research by looking at the more popular series, and I have seen evidence of companies leaning on scanlators and fansubbers to stop distribution so they do know whats going on.
To finish, my favourite warped comparison. Capitalism won the cold war but now we have a form of e-communism where all can gain equal access to the same entertainment regardless of wealth or status.
I am aware of possible consequences I nearly always consider them before I do anything.
this is exactly the point that kyubbi was missing.
Im just saying its illegal (and no im not lying) and you should recognize this.
Yoko - I believe everything i stated in that post was clear as crystal. Surely I do not have to simplify it for you.
But that still doesnt mean you arent hypocrites about azmo.
What about the people with the means to get the manga. Seriously let's say someone in Hawaii wants to watch some anime. Are they going to go to Amazon, order the Dvd and wait for weeks? That was a rehtorical question by the way.
Look at the convinence, cost and accesability. If I want my Shaman King volume 10+ (I do support Takei by buying) am I supposed to wait for years for Viz to be finished? No! I will support the author [B]and[/B read my free manga.
Why would you register at a site with about 100 titles and well over 1000 chapters of manga and then preach to us about the legality of it. You hypocite! I am a translator for a scantalation team that advocates buying the manga we scantalate. Are you telling us to stop because we are not going to. We will continue to provide the manga to the people and let them read.
And about azmo I don't see how we are being hypocitical at all.
Assuming you mean Tazmo not Azmo we're not hypocrites, we're not pissed at him offering the downloads. What we're pissed at is him lying about costs/donations and making money off of the work scanlators and fansubbers have done for free to let fans enjoy the work without having to wait for it to become available in their location.
From what I have read, if the manga was legally purchased in Japan, and then scanslated into english, it doesn't infringe on international copyright laws, as long as it is hosted in a country other than America, though I could be wrong.
By the way, I like to read a few chapters of a manga, then delete it and buy it, or wait for it to get translated in America and buy it. Yeah, one of those sickening goody-goodies. =p Well, actually to be honest, it is more because I hate reading it on a computer screen(hurts the eyes after a while), I would rather spend money to have the ease of use/less chance of eyestrain of a hardbound copy.
sooo can someone summarize what the topic creator typed?
my eyes are tired atm :/
"Downloading illegal stuff is bad. This stuff is illegal. You are bad. You are a hypocrite for being against tazmo. You are in the same boat as him."
I happen to disagree about the legality.
On an unrelated note, walkingstick, have you ever strung together a full sentence in a post? This is starting to get annoying.
I don't think I have.....
It seems it's like statutory rape and begging, it's not illegal if no one presses charges:
@walk, I think the implication is that you should consider doing that.
