Thread: Moderator Abuse

There has been a lot of talk both among the moderators and members on this forum about moderator abuse and it’s really caused me a lot of disappointment especially when I heard that a lot of people have stopped visiting due to the moderator issues.

I’ve known for a while that moderators here were somewhat strict but I did not think things were too bad until recently I have seen some of the PM’s from members that were sent to me and it seems I was wrong to simply sit back and let the forum and moderators pretty much run things. It seems that a lot of people have been banned for arguing with certain moderators and that is especially something I do not approve of.

I have very little time now days which is one of the reasons I ignored what was happening on the forum, and since I did not receive more than a few PM’s I figured things were going pretty well minus a few exceptions.

When I first started this site not only was it my goal to put an end to Tazmo and his shenanigans and expose him for what he really was … it was also my goal to create a place where members could come and hang out and not have to deal with abusive moderators but it seems like so many other large forums.

I’d like to remind you all though that even though in some situations power might have been abused it has been used appropriately in many other situations. What happens after a period of time … day in and day out … the weight of dealing with abusers, spammers and other abusive members does take its toll. It’s like stress and it causes you to snap.

I’m not going to go on and on … I’m posting this message to let you all know that I am sorry things have gotten so bad and to let you know that I am truly sorry for not doing enough to crack down and ensure the rules are enforced against members and the moderators of this forum alike.

I’m going to take a much more active roll on the forum now, and I am going to be posting privately in our moderator area about how moderators should treat members and if there are any problems the moderators are just going to find themselves canned.

In short I am sorry and I hope you will forgive me and if anyone has any future moderator abuse they would like to report, let me know through a PM. No moderator should ever insult you or ban you for disagreeing with them (Assuming you are not disagreeing with rules like spamming, too large of signature images, etc and break those rules).

If anyone has comments please feel free to chime in.

EDIT: MEH, Sorry Kane. That was really dickish of me. But seriously it seems to me that there wasn't any moderator abuse until Martyr got demodded. CPR's topic was underhanded and opened the doors for people who were banned to complain and come off as the victims. Problems between moderators should be solved between moderators, period. The kind of stuff that just happened is what kills forums. It's nice to see you are going to be taking a more active role here. I personally have given up on it at this point, think it needs to be mentioned that if anything some of the moderators are being far too lenient. Standards shouldn't have to be lowered, and some people need to dish out infractions rather than just fix/remove the posts or topics in question.

Personally, I think I deserved more than what I got, and I don't intend to make another post like this one was, sorry.

Seriously, that was not needed at all. If you disagree then do so accordingly.


But as for the topic itself, things did get out of hand and it would of been better if you were there from the start, but it's only logical that life and it's ordeals set people back. As the saying goes, "better late than never." It's great to hear that you'll be a bit more active now, at least with the mods, but I'd also think that it'd be also good that you spent more time with normal members as well. Since in fact, they are the ones that truly make the community what it is. Again, that's good that you'll be there to help ST to recover from this repercussion and hopefully make things that much better for the future.

It wasn't a personal dispute between moderators as far as I know, it was a problem with one of the mods (or possibly more than one) doing selfish things just because they had the ability to do them (which I experienced first hand), and the other mods stood up for what they thought was right. I don't think it was underhanded at all, I think it's necessary for them to keep each other in line.

Is that really a reason to leave ? I was perma-banned and I didn't leave....mods have yet to really abuse their powers

Here's a wild idea, Kane.

You want to can any mods who have been abusing their powers? Strip their powers from all of them.*

The mods who are interested in continuing to moderate this forum will make threads requesting this priviledge. If they receive an endorsement from x amount** of regular, respected posters, and no more complaints from the same party than y amount***, reinstate them.

If you want to know exactly which mods are active and have been acting fairly and treating members with respect, this is a way of doing it. It also allows them a chance to explain and justify any actions that the members have not understood (of course, a moderator does not always make popular decisions, and this should not be a popularity contest by any means).

I've recently heard that removing and adding moderators is a fairly involved process. While I don't wish to ask you to do a lot of work, I believe this plan will only work if the moderator status is truly revoked and members are liberated to speak frankly.

Banning should never be a reason to quit the forums but it's hard sometimes.. I remember when warf tried sometime ago to get back in the forums, his acc was unbanned after 2 years of ban, he promised not to spam and improved his english just to get banned again before he could change his oversized signature. (maybe he got to post once? I don't know)

It's true that some mod's banned members simply because they disagree/argue/are irritate about something in IRC/a thread(s)/something else (I'm one of them but I guess I shouldn't had pushed them that far, I can be irritating. ) but I still consider all of them as my friends (except you hag, you know who you are! </3) and it's sad to see them leave. :/

Oh and Jyuu still hasn't replied back to my invitation to go beat down some polish noobs in D2 lod (I know he has the game!). Kane, mind forcing Jyuu to play that game again? lol.

So I get a message and I see some serious e-drama. Hmm, after researching and reading up on a lot of things, it seems that CPR and Jyuu really went overboard. I don't think it was right to demod Mart. He was an asshole but he was my kind of asshole. I liked him. He was always fair and HE was the one to always clean the forums and shovel the shit. Sure he was the #1 most hated but that's only because he took it upon himself to enforce rules. The mods aren't strict here, don't lower the standards Kane. Kaom made a really good suggestion and I believe it would work.

I'm not supposed to really give too many details, but its a little from collum A and a little from B. There was nothing selfish about what Mart did.
