Thread: Server/Donation Status [November 2006]

As many of you already know we have been having server issues, and the end result was us asking for donations to help cover the cost of additional hardware expenses. FDC does not have any more SATA drives in stock, so we will have to wait until next week for our hardware to come in.

We currently do an easy 100mbps all day long. This is over 32,000gb’s of bandwidth every month.

Right now our server expenses run close to $999/m. The ads that we have on our site only pay for about ~$500 on a good month. We have tried almost every sponsor out there, and we are left with little options. Most of the time I am the one paying the remaining server bills, which are normally between $500 and $600.

No longer can I afford to do this. I know many of you don’t want to see us turn into a site that offers a premium service, and I have one last option, and that’s to try one last time to get donations to start coming in. We tried this before and never made much from donations.

What I am going to do is this. I am going to start posting exactly what we need each month, and if I have to pay out of my own pocket more than $50 for the server for two months in a row, I am going to start offering a premium service for this site to help cover the server costs, and the costs of upgrades. I have worked on this site for over a year now, releasing updates every two days, I should not have to spend so much money to keep it going.

I am going to post what we need for this month below.

Hmm I just donated last time for the hardware upgrades,
well I could donate again,
but I don't download so many manga here except for Gantz and futari ecchi, most of the time I'm here just for the forum discussion.

If you are going to have a premium service, what's included? and what's not included in the non-premium? and how much will you pay?

PS: sperm you don't need to spend 200 by yourself you can ask your friends to donate, I'm sure you have friends with money since you are in private school.

Anything you donate really does help. This was what my plan was if we did have premium membership.

• Premium Section of this site. Includes forums for Support (Download Issues, etc).
• Premium members would have a say on more of the things that go on here, feature wise, or what additional manga series we add.
• No ads on download pages.
• I was thinking of maybe faster speeds.
• Maybe private access to AnimeRun (If we go Premium it will go private and I will add additional 750gb drives to the server for anime)
• Maybe do the same thing with MangaRun.

I guess you could say Premium users are like shareholders in a company.

I don't have a Paypal account or anything like that. Is there another way that I could donate.

On a side note I had to sign in 5 times before I could post this is there a problem with the system. (probably not the right place to ask)

We can only accept paypal donations at this time.

i'll have to ask my bank if i can use my account for paypal...since they don't allow me to do direct debit...

hmm, i kinda like the idea of the premium accounts being shareholders. how much would it be, per month? i'm gonna donate, but... it sounds kinda cool.

Premium is going to be a last resort. I don't want to do it, but in the end I might be forced to. It would be $5/m. I'm sure with our traffic we could get an easy 100 people to signup, which would give us what we need.

okay, that doesnt seem so bad. but donations are still the best option. is there any way to make the donations ad thingy more visible? because i missed it the first time. you should make it flashy or something, so everyone sees it.
