They give out anime awards yearly.

They've recently finished voting for 2008 anime awards here.

They're now deciding "Jury picks" kinda like Judges picks of anime that should've or might've deserved an award but was out voted because they were overshadowed by a very popular anime such as "Clannad" for example. Well I'm just guessing anywayz.

Anyway discuss whether or not so and so anime deserved so and so award in that particular year & genre or ... whatever. lol

I use it, to pick up anime to watch when I'm unsure what to pick up to watch.

Can someone explain to me what this place is for?

Isn't this sub-forum a little redundant because there exist a General Manga/Anime Discussion.

This place feels more like an extension of a specialistion of that sub-forum.

Hmmm... I can't believe Clannad won over ARIA for best slice of life. That's... ridiculous. ARIA is the shining example of what slice of life is. Clannad has too many other elements mixed up in it to be true slice of life.

Other than that, that list looks pretty useful. Now I need to go check out Detroit Metal City, considering it won such high recognition in the comedy category...

Off-topic: Yeah... personally, I'm quite satisfied with the General Manga/Anime discussion forum already. It's not like we need to split up manga and anime because the number of new threads is spamming the board, after all. On average, we get about two new threads a week in General A/M or Misc. Series forums. That seems about right... even a little slow. Won't separating out the anime discussions make the forums too scattered?

For me, I can't believe Lucky Star won Best Comedy of 2007, Personally I didn't think Lucky Star was THAT funny compared to the competition.

Yeah it had it's moments here and there and maybe one funny episode but most of the time it bore me to death... quite literally... there were times I felt the show was puting to sleep and it's not becuase I stayed up to 4am to find out what happens next.

Maybe it was because I compared it too much with Azumanga Diaoh which rasied my expectations a little, which is in my opinion the funniest Slice of Life/Comedy anime I've seen so far and Lucky Star fell very short in comparison, at least when it came to comedy.

^ it ain't perfect... but they're doing the best they can, this is a popularity vote obviously, they assume the voters vote with their common sense and assume the voters have at least seen all the anime nominated in whatever category.

besides finding a group of anime to be nominated for any particular category must difficult especially if there aren't any stand out anime you can think from the top of your head to be nominated in that category lol.

Yeah, I just it's just that it sort of irks me seeing some things nominated when there's definitely better stuff out there, but at the same time it is a fan made poll.

Is there an official award thing out right now?
