Default Voices of a Distant Star ending

I recently watched Voices of a Distant Star (finally!), and I know it's supposed to be one of the classics to watch, but I don't really get the ending. The animation is lovely, and the mood is sorta nice, but what was the significance of that last sequence, and that last sentence? What does it all mean?

When I watched it, I was like... Huh? That's it?

Can someone explain why the ending is supposed to be good/meaningful? Did I miss some sort of sub-plot somewhere?

What? I thought the animation was fairly good. I liked the moody feel of the earth sequences, the fight against the Tarsiers, and the scenery of the Tarsier world. I just don't understand the ending. No trolling, genuinely curious. Was there something I missed?

Haven't seen it in years, but iirc it was just a questionable ending of whether or not she survived isn't it? Can't say it was really good or meaningful per say, but I thought it was done pretty well for a two man movie.

Personally like the manga more than the anime.

It is implied that she survives, and will be waiting in deep space 9 for her loverboy.

If you'll notice the power on her suit went out, all the UN spacey ships were destroyed, and she was stuck in deep space. The conclusion couldn't be more obvious.

Although Voices was the exclusive creation of Makoto Shinkai, manga-ka Mizu Sahara has been entrusted with penning this adaptation.

It has been years since I watched it. Plot? Well...this story basically explain how two friends (lovers maybe?) communicate with each other over the distance - with the girl getting further and further from Earth. The messages takes time to reach the recipient when you take account of the Law of Physic (correct spelling?). Thus the title: Voices of a Distant Star.

To me the ending is pretty much easy to understand: The girl's voice/message eventually become like the star, where it would only reach the boy after years lapse.
