I think its just that Spitfire sees more potenial in Kazu then he does in Aeon Clock.And Aeon walks a different road.And I dont think he wants Aeon using his Regalia.
Aeon walked away from the Flame Road himself, or at least that's the impression I got from the conversation between Spitfire and Nue during the Kogarasumaru vs. Genesis match, so there would be no point in picking him as the successor when he uses another road. Plus, I think that the idea is to pass the Regalia on to a member of the "new guard" so to speak, someone not bound by the chains of the SF/Genesis feud.
As for Mimasaka being Aeon's girlfriend, maybe it was one of those deals where she was pretty much provided by the family back in the day to satisfy all of his..."needs." Little did they know he didn't swing that way, but the two still developed a close bond.
^No, Mimasaka was really his GF. Aeon's weird, but he's not gay (despite the whole violating the Genesis king bit).

i am not sure if aeon is ready for sora. I forsee a big ass kicking by sora. Really if one sora couldn't be taken out by both SPitfire and Aeon than one on one wont even be a challenge.
