Bullet Tooth Tony: You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
Reporter on Titan Maximum: Sasha is there any connection between your poor album sales and the fact that it sucked?
Here's a known fact.
Sex/sex appeal sales.
So thus 99.9% of women in manga are usually hot/cute or something and with OG, he's such a awesome artist that his girls/women are incredibly hot.
It had gotten pretty far early on. And since about the point Ringo was in the S & M gear, it started to slowly tone down. But that is something Oh Great! has done in all his stuff, remember that opening shot of what was it chapter 3 or 4 of Tenjou Tenge? When Bob's girlfriend was buck naked and riding him? I expect it out of an ex Hentai maker.
As far as Air Gear I'd say it has shown tons of positive images of women to counter balance the others. Much like Tarentino. You can't deny the ability of the ladies to in many cases out do the men, Ringo is basically the field Commander for Sleeping Forest, Simca ran Genesis until she gave it to Ikki though she still runs things from the hospital bed. Toul Tou To could crush all the Kings if they decided to quit tuning, and Benkei well not only is she the Goddess of the series like Anko for Naruto, but she whips ass without being a whore.
Face facts the ladies sell, but they also do some major ruling of the yard, and bringing the boys to it, milkshake or sans milkshake.
Yeah I know that the women do have important roles in the manga (i.e. they're not just for eye candy), but the way OG portrays them (i.e. wearing deliberately revealing clothing and putting them in exotic poses), its kind of taking fanservice a bit too far IMO, plus it portrays women as loose sex objects.
^Plus it's a manga, it's to be expected that they look good unless you'd like to look at some fugly characters. >_>
Part of a great manga is the art, or at least imo. Certainly the fanservice isn't something important to a manga, but that's just what it is, and like I said before it's been toned down a lot so meh.
Objectification doesn't bother me as much in manga as it does in real life (well, not that it bothers me much in real life either >_>), since it's not like there are real people being exploited. Plus, the gender card goes both ways; if you really thought that all girls dressed like porno stars because you read Air Gear, you'd also think all guys are uber-horny sexual harrassers who take any chance they get to lift a girl's skirt. Basically, take things with a grain of salt and you won't have to get all worked up about it.
^Touche. xD
But katana does make a good point there, it's a manga after all so no harm done, kinda.
