Thread: A Moral Question

This has been bothering me for quite some time, well not really bothering just been in the back of my mind.

I also scanned the first 4 topic pages and didn't find anything about this.

When Kogarasumaru faced the Octuplets, do you think it was a good idea for Oh! Great to put the octuplets motives shadey?

What I'm talking about is that they started out looking like they were noble, providing shelter on that island for all those people. But their true motive was to keep the property up in limbo so they'd inherit it so that they could then sell it for a profit.

I'm kind of torn on this. I think it might've been a good idea for Oh! Great to show that to get to top of the tower they would have to walk over teams and their dreams, no matter how good their motives are. As what the octuplets were presumed. Give the manga a little more of an edge.

But there is also the fact that if the shady happenings weren't revealed it would put Kogarasumaru in a bad light. Like get them a bad rap.

Though it does kind of go with the fact that we have no clue who the real bad guy is, or if there is even a real bad guy. Just opposing thoughts.

Just wondering what other people's thoughts are on this.

Yeah I also that the whole "oh, they're greedy btw" thing was thrown in kind of late and without much explanation. Did Ikki know that they were corrupt from the beginning when he was inclined to challenge them? Is that why he said "we're going to reach the top by stomping on the dreams of those we beat"? Or did he just want to test his team's loyalty?


And about the "main bad guy" I was wondering the same thing when I started watching Naruto at first, since Orochimaru (the main bad guy) doesn't appear until like the 26th episode. I'm pretty sure Kilik is the main antagonist of Air Gear since he has an evil sibling thing going on (Simca's twin brother) and he's seems to be the true leader of Sleeping Forest although I'm not sure if his motives are as noble as Rika and Ringo.

But so far all we've seen is opposing thoughts. We don't know the real reasons why Kilik attacked Sora and the old Sleeping Forest.

You have Sleeping Forest preventing people from reaching the sky, and Genesis trying to reach the sky.

The only really bad thing that we've seen is the attack on Simca (I'm talking about scanlated chapters only). But we learn that it is something that is not permanent (as once thought) and done to protect.

Well no matter how tough the love is (like in Simca's case) her best well-being was in mind, but with Sora, Kilik (if it was him that did it, not 100% sure) made him a paraplegic which completely crushed his dreams and placed a burden he'll have to live with for the rest of his life on his shoulders. And with no positive intentions in sight (unless he would have died for some reason, which is the only worse fate) it doesn't make Kilik look good in the slightest.. However Kilik gained a seat of power in the Tropheum and possibly the backseat leadership of Sleeping Forest.

Also since they said that 2 things were born in the tropheum (Simca/Kilik & Air Gear) maybe Kilik has some special power with Air Gear, my theory is that it's the Sky King's regalia and he was born destined to use it and Simca be his tuner. I'm not sure 100% but if Simca was Sora's tuner then that'd mean that she couldn't be Kilik's tuner so he got rid of Sora in an attempt to get her back?

What about all the people who got their faces ripped off?

I might not have been clear enough. But what I was talking about was that the attack on Simca didn't really have any purpose, as in it was sort of malicious. She was attacked when she didn't have any AT's on and was pretty much defenseless. While the people who got there faces ripped off at least put up a fight, no matter how useless it was.

That just ends up going back to the team vs. team ideals. Gabashi attacked them because they were part of Genesis and trying to get to the sky that Sleeping Forest protects.

But lets get back on topic here, the differing ideals and who the real "bad" guy is has already been discussed in a topic, I can dig if you want. But what I want to know is if you thought it was a good idea by Great to put in that the octuplets were actually greedy bastards instead of noblemen?

I honestly think it would have worked either way but Great just decided to keep Kogarasumaru(sp?) in the "nice guy" image, although I personally would have liked it if the team showed it's resolve by being able to dominate other people's teams despite their noble intentions, but in the end show it was necessary.

And about the attack on Simca I think you missed the part that she was temporarily crippled so that she wouldn't be endangered by the upcoming battle (since she's kilik's sister and leader of genesis she probably would have been forced to do some tough battles.

Garabashi(sp?) riped peoples faces off...that's just not cool. You can still A-T without a face but you'll be alot uglier and more pissed off.

You can make a very convincing argument that crippling Simca is the ultimate act of a brother's love. He knew if he let her get into the battle she would end up in a worse state or possibly dead. With her being sidelined she would still retain much of her control and be able to go back to A-T once things had calmed down.

And he used Om instead of gabashi because she wanted her out for a while not dead. He knew she wouldn't back down and stay out of the fight, and secretly I bet he knew about things that come up later in the raws. He couldn't bare to take her down himself like he did Sora, and he sure as hell couldn't use the Noyamano sisters to do it or much bigger problems could have occurred. It just made more sense this way, and shows that maybe he isn't as evil as we keep telling ourselves he is.

In a manga where women are shown mostly as sex objects, you're worried about the moral aspects of the octuplets having shady intentions. Personally I found that mini arc quite interesting, and it gave us an insight into how Ikki does things (i.e. researching his opponents, which is why Ikki had no problems with beating them).

Bah, one question at a time.

But I guess I never thought of it that way. I just think that Great could've handled the situation better. The fact that they were really douchebags, as someone said before, seemed like it was tacked on the end of that mini-arc to keep Kogarasumaru in a good light.
