Default I don't understand at all

Air Gear is a great manga I think, the best work Oh Great has done considering the others were I think pretty bad.

But The way I see it, the manga community is pretty split about it. I mean like a fifty-fifty split.

LIke half think it's a work of art while the other half think not even worth being used as toilet paper.

Even the scanlation doesn't seem to like it. So I don't understand at all, what's wrong with Air Gear?

It's a crappy manga designed around fanservice. The plot is weak, the characters are uninteresting...

ummm, this is just a theory, but maybe if the manga was exactly the same but wasn't written by OH GREAT, maybe more people would like it more, cause right now it's you love it or you hate it, I see no middle ground

one of the reasons that i never got around to reading it is because of Oh Great's record of gratuitous use of fanservice. I mean for me it is a big turn off for a manga to feature that as a reoccuring theme. I mean a tit here and there isnt that bad but all over the place sucks.

exact;y the author (ito ogure) focuses mostly on fanservice - the characters are shallow , nobody dies , it lacks a lot but on the other side it has an amazing art (of course OH Great style - to which you have to get used to )
Actually it's quite obvious it's a title targeted for younger teens 13 + or so
unlike Tenten which isfor 17+ and that's the age categpry which Oh great really likes and where he can really show of with both art and some story ( he used to do hentai - so you know what i mean by art )
The problem with AG is that it's really typical shonene manga ( a lone hero - living with a buch of girls - and advances with each chapter towards perfection - nothing will stop him -no one gets really hurt - everybody is happy - and all that stuff - repeated in tons of manga - of course with diffrent art , sometimes slightly diffrent chacters , plot but the idea is the same )

AG is lighthearted and it has fanserivce, that's why people don't like it. When you tell them to read TenTen instead, which is surely not lighthearted and has a story unlike AG, they tell you the story sucks. Simple as that, not a single agrument being given. In the end, they are just anal.

    Air Gear+:

    Fanservice, if you like it.
    Art rocks.
The characters, while not the deepest, are likeable and well-designed.
Easy read, no dark skull-numbing plot twists or weird moral statements.

    Air Gear-:

Fanservice, if you don't like it.
The characters are very stereotypical. Even more so than, say, Bleach, where at least the main guy isn't an idiot.
The plot is too straightforward for some folks.

    Tenjou Tenge+:

More fanservice, if you like it.
Good art, becomes great art after about volume 8.
The fight scenes are very stylish.

    Tenjou Tenge-:

More fanservice, if you don't like it.
Plot and characters are very difficult to get into at first.
World's second longest flashback, after berserk.

    Uryuu freaky, pale and geeky,
    how do your powers grow?
"With gloves and scars and silver stars
and swords that I shoot from a bow,
yes, swords that I shoot from a bow."
