Now that hunter x hunter has been confirmed to return somewhere in october, i'm gonna put it on standby as my favourite, 666 is a pretty solid manga i enjoy, but not my favorite.

At the same time for some reason i loathe naruto, mostly because i developed a hatred for him after watching the fillers. I read up to sasuke killing oro and never read it again. I know manga and anime is different but i truly hate the main char now, thx to anime. Even the fanboy's piss me off, lot of naruto nubs are go around bashing other animes as well,in youtube, and anime reviews, of course it doesn't happen as much anymore.

    other series im liking is

negima, berserk, grayman, one piece,FMA etc. Never checked out bleach, just saw its anime.

^I can't wait for the return of Hunter x Hunter either. There are a lot of anime nubs everywhere. How are Berserk, Grayman, and One Piece? I'm considering reading them next.

berserk is sorta a gothic midevil european setting, where wars are erupting throughout the world. The main guy grows up to become a mercenary, later joins a band of mercenaries, character development, with the group, and the band joining various wars, sieges and skirmishes. They'll meet some demons and non-humans who will later play larger a role in the future. Keep in mind this is only the intro.

The real story starts after the band of mercs has something unbelievable happen to it,at this point the story gets more dark and encountering more demons, some of them being pitiable, the main guy i.e guts/gatts w.e will go on a journey of revenge, slicing down demons, learning about magic, diffrent realsm, gathering comrades and the story will talk about the factions in this war etc. Some romance, but not a lot.

Keep in mind this manga is very graphic it has lots of blood and guts from killing monsters to humans.Of course they added a cute and funny fairy as a balance to this.Thiers monster rape, and other nudity, monsters digging into flesh, and guts of humans drawn in detail littered about, but you get an rpgish feel to it after he has more comrades, the fact its black and white so the guts and blood won't affect a person very much.

Reason i mention all these things is so you know what your going to be seeing. Don;t get me wrong its not like you will encounter those stuff ALL the time, but they DO happen sometimes. So i'm warning you on that part.

Grayman: ppl wiht special power are selected and trained to become part of a world wide organization, that deals with exorcisms, the main villain creates the monsters from the dead souls of people who are mourned. You'll basically follow the main guy and his missions, meeting other allies, a slight hint at romance, and etc.

    one piece:
you'll find out about the meaning of the name pretty early so i'm not gonna explain it. story about a guy whos dream to become the pirate king. The drawing aren't very attractive to many people but it's something you get used to. Main guys loves meat, being silly, a dumbass, and like to kick enemies ass.
In this world you have cursed fruits that grant you certain abilities, turning into fire, able to make your body turn into iron, change into and eagle, manipulate sand, and etc.Luffy gain properties of rubber so his battles are a bit creative.

His version of being a pirate is idealized meaning he isn't about pillaging and stealing, but adventure and living open in the seas. His personality would make you laugh alot throughout the adventure. He'll gather comrades each with their own arc and back story, relating to pirates or about themselves. Each with thier own abilities, powers and unique personalities. No romance, although one of the crew members is a pervert/gentleman/masochist, and keeps hitting on the 2 girls on the ship, and wherever else.

Main guy named luffy will save villages from pirates (the type that plunders.murders and etc), gather comrades, get a ship, get a bounty(usually its associated with how dangerous or powerful you are)Assigned by the marines , deal with the authority of the seas(marines), revolutionaries at war with marines, other pirates with bounties, mermen, giants, evil organizations, fighting god..yeah you heard me...you'll understand when you reach that part, where he goes into the civilization located in the clouds. Later on he'll deal with zombies and soon mermaids(for the pervert crew member).Theirs alot of things i still didn't mention but i'll be typing WAAAY to much already.

^Dude, thats enough of a summary. Anyways back to 666, I really like how they incorporate the whole NGE Kaballah tree aspect with the ruins of the past, ancient tech aspect of FMA.
Kirin reminded me of Jiraiya the 1st time he was introduced, but the other characters are fairly original.

Hmmm...I read 666 Satan and in my opinion the plot is moving a little too quickly for me, but I still think its an alright manga. I would label Death Note, Bleach, Naruto, and D. Grayman as alright mangas. My personal favorites are Berserk, HxH, Vagabond, Hajime no Ippo, GTO, and Rurouni Kenshin.

One thing I find really unique about 666 is its huge chapter size. I think the chaps are even larger than the FMA chaps and are really twice the size of Naruto chaps. Thats why they're able to pull off these brief detailed episodes of certain events really well and are able to put a huge timeskip in the story without hurting its quality.

Not true. There are some reasons why people don't like Naruto (anymore).

    1. The Anime and the pathetic filler arcs. This isn't realy fair since the anime shouldn't be compared with the manga.
    2. The Time- skip: The art changed alot and not in a positive manner. The arcs seam repetitive and kinda boring ( fight/training/new technique/fight/.........).
    3. The new characters. They just don't have the same charm as the old ones had exept Atsukagi)
    4. Sai: He just sucks.
    5. The whole Sasuke left us buhuhuhuhu. Get over it.
    6. Sasuke. Many people just hate him and think he's overpowerd
    7. The fights: Still very good in my opinion, but some find them too long.
    8. The lack of character developement: Now this is something I realy don't mind, but most characters havn't changed a bit. Even after the time-skip.
    9. The whole story is very predictable. mostly one knows whats gonna hapen in the next 3-6 chapters. You know the outcome of every fight befor it realy starts.
    10. The lack of a gripping storyline. The whole story is very simpel and forwards, whithout any major plottwists or surprises. The only secrets you want to know are about Atsukagi and their goals/ abilities.

These are not my opinions (well some of them are) but these are some reasons why people dislike or hate Naruto. Personaly I stil read it but it's not one of my favs anymore.

    btw. One Piece>HunterxHunter>FMA>Tenjou Tenge>Blade of the Imortal>Battle Angel Alita>Naruto(old)>Bleach(old)>Eyeshield21>Airgear( sry but I like it^^)>FairyTail>GTO>666Satan>Death Note>Shamanking>Neon Genesis Evangelion>Kenshin>Negima>Dr.Slump>GANTZ>Naruto(ne w)>Love Hina>Conan>Bleach(new)>Battle Royal>Samurai Deeper Kyo>Ranma1/2>Dragonball(My first mag)>DNA^2>AI love you>Xclamp

These are only the Mags I like/liked(unlike Inuyasha, Bastard, YuGiOh, Bayblade......). haven't been able to read D.Grayman, Berserk, Ful Metal Panik and others yet......

wow this has been my longest post

    ever

All those points are still based on taste and not quality. And long fights my ass, they were a hell of a lot longer before.

^I agree. I actually disagree with all the numbered points you (jwhiskey) mentioned except for #1,6, and sometimes 7 (but I think long fights aren't necessarily bad things). You yourself mentioned the anime shouldn't be a measure of the manga, and Sasuke is a big question mark.

There have been tons of plot twists within Naruto, in fact, I would say there have been many more in Naruto than 666. And there are a ton of large questions left to be answered aside from the Akatsuki related ones. About character development, sometimes I feel like Masashi leaves a character undeveloped for a while to show it all at once during a battle.

I like 666 because theres this general large mystery about the Kaballa recipes and whatnot and the exact meaning and incentives pertaining to it; in Naruto, there is no such central mystery but many mysteries whose ultimate importance are difficult to measure.
